Creating memories

Our Mission

Death  To The  Beige  Era
Long  Live  Velvet  Nights

We built Gem City Kitschy for the people who have spent too long looking at the wedding and event world wondering, where the hell are we in all of this? For the queer couples, the maximalists, the rule-breakers, the assembled families, and anyone who has never quite fit inside the industry’s beautifully curated box. There’s enough crisp white, quiet neutral, and rustic charm in the world. We wanted color, glamour, camp, nostalgia, and a space where the people who have historically been treated like an afterthought get to be the main event. We exist to make celebration feel more representative, more expressive, and a whole lot more alive.

Hi,  I'm  Katie

Meet the Founder

Aries. Creative. Professional maker-of-things-a-little-extra. Kitschy came from my love of creative expression and my tendency to imagine things just a few clicks past necessary. I wanted to build the kind of place I kept wishing existed in Dayton: somewhere bold, welcoming, visually ridiculous in all the right ways, and completely uninterested in asking people to tone themselves down. It’s a little love letter to Dayton, a little rebellion against beige, and a place for good people to have a damn good time.

Our approach

driven  by  The   Need  For  A Different   Kind  of  Space  & The  Comunity That We Exist  For.

Our approach is equal parts good hospitality, creative freedom, and a willingness to say, “yeah, we can probably make that happen.”

Our approach

Our approach

BUILT  FOR   THE  PEOPLE WHO  WERE  NEVER  THE DEFAULT.

We know what it feels like to look at a space and wonder where the hell you are in all of it. Kitschy is proudly queercentric, radically welcoming, and built with the belief that nobody should have to soften their identity, explain their people, or make their celebration more palatable to belong here. Come exactly as you are. Bring the whole damn crew.

Our approach

Our approach

LESS  “HOW  IT’S  DONE.” MORE  “HOW  DO  YOU WANT  TO  DO  IT? ”

We’re not particularly interested in rules for rules’ sake. Wear the weird outfit. Skip the traditions you hate. Turn your wedding into a cocktail party. Throw yourself a divorce bash. Host the niche event you’ve been talking about in the group chat for six months. Our approach is to give you a wildly good space, help where you need us, and leave plenty of room for you to make it unmistakably yours.

"Dayton NEEDED a place like this."

It’s colorful, weird, welcoming, and completely different from every other event space around here. You walk in and immediately want to see every little corner and detail. The FLOOOORS, don't even get me started on the floors. They are everything and more. Gem City Kitschy is an entire experience.

Kind words

“I genuinely don't know how to explain this place other than you HAVE to see it in person.”

We walked in and immediately started looking at each other like, are you kidding me?? Every time you turn around there’s another tiny detail you didn’t notice before. We took approximately 700 photos, stayed way longer than we planned, and have already been talking about what excuse we can come up with to have something here again.

- Heather and Stacy

Kind words

“Okay, pictures genuinely do not do this place justice.”

I thought I knew what to expect from seeing it online and then we walked in and I was like… ohhhh, they really went for it. 😂 There is SO much to look at and somehow every corner is a good photo spot. We spent half the night pointing out little details we hadn’t noticed yet. Dayton has needed somewhere like this for a long time.
